Without a doubt, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens was a big surprise for me in 2020. I’d seen that it was on top of the Best Sellers lists on Amazon and other places for so long that I thought I’d buy it and see if it was any good - and WOW I was impressed. I’d heard a lot about Jade City by Fonda Lee before I picked it up. It had begun to build up some incredible hype when the second one came out and people remembered just how good the first is. I feel that the hype for a first book gets a second wind when the sequel comes out as people didn’t want to hype it too early in case the rest of the series was bad. In 2020 I read 57 books. A massive part of this will have been that we were all in a pandemic so had far more time on our hands. However, I work for a hospital and so work never stopped, we simply worked from home where we could - so that excuse may not be as valid for me as others.
