Yellowface by Rebecca F Kuang book review

Yellowface by Rebecca F Kuang book review

Book reviews, Contemporary Fiction
I picked up Yellowface because I’d heard quite a few people sing its praises and because all of the bookish stars aligned (I needed to pick up a book and it was on my “realistic TBR” and the audiobook became available). It’s an interesting book that discusses the topic of the affects of social media on authors but I’m not sure it quite does enough. Please note that this article contains affiliate links. One by One by Freida McFadden book review

One by One by Freida McFadden book review

Book reviews
Freida McFadden has become one of those authors I go to for an easy read. Her books are all fairly similar in style: female lead, quick, fast-paced chapters and a plot that reveals more about the characters’ past as it progresses. One by One has most of these but just doesn’t seem to hit the same note with me as her other books did. Please note that this article contains affiliate links. Happy Place by Emily Henry book review

Happy Place by Emily Henry book review

Book reviews, Contemporary Fiction, Romance
I picked up Happy Place by Emily Henry some time ago from my local Asda (if you're American, this is a cheap supermarket we have here in the UK) for only £5 (about $6.50). After seeing a few people harp on about how good Emily Henry's books were, I decided to pick up my only one, Happy Place. Since finishing it I've heard it's not her best, but let's see what I thought of it prior to knowing this. Please note that this article contains affiliate links. The Inmate by Freida McFadden book review

The Inmate by Freida McFadden book review

Book reviews, Mystery, Thriller
Freida McFadden is becoming one of those authors whose books I go to whenever I need something lighter and easier to read. After finishing A Little Life one of the longest, most depressing books I've ever read, picking up The Inmate was exactly what I needed. But, is it a good book in its own right too? A Little Life by Hanya Yanigahara book review

Book reviews, Contemporary Fiction
A Little Life by Hanya Yanigahara is a book that I'd been hearing incredibly sad things about for months. After reposting my monthly follower choice reads over on my Instagram, every single time, someone would make a comment "A Little Life is going to ruin you". So when I finally got around to reading it, I had both high hopes but also tempered expectations due to hype. Please note that this article contains affiliate links. Godkiller by Hannah Kaner book review

Book reviews, Fantasy
Godkiller is the debut fantasy novel from Hannah Kaner and one that I'd seen doing the rounds across a lot of social media platforms before deciding to pic it up. The fact it was only £5 (about $6.50) in my local supermarket was also another reason I picked it up if I'm being honest! Please note that this article contains affiliate links. The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson book review

Book reviews, Fantasy
As Brandon Sanderson’s name once again becomes one of the biggest in books as the launch of his fifth and final book (of this part anyway) in his Stormlight Archive comes out later this year, I knew I wanted to dive back into his writing and so after telling everyone to read the Mistborn trilogy realising I’d never actually finished it, I picked up The Well of Ascension. Lisa Jewell is one of my favourite authors - I've enjoyed almost every one of her thrillers that I've read. So when she kindly reached out and asked if I'd like a copy of her new Marvel novel, Breaking the Dark, I jumped at the opportunity. Lisa Jewell plus Marvel must result in a book I'd really enjoy, right?! Please note that this article contains affiliate links. The Book That Wouldn't Burn is a book I picked up after a lot of people were hyping it up when they saw it during my TikTok Lives. 10 tips for writing book reviews – things to consider in your review

Book reviews
Writing book reviews isn't always as easy as some people think. Sometimes you read a book and you find it quite hard to articulate why you loved that book or maybe why ypu really didn't enjoy the book. When writing my reviews, I always try and think of a few different categories that help me get down on the keyboard what I enjoyed about the book. Even then, sometimes, it may not make obvious sense as to why I in fact loved the book, but at least I was able to articulate easier what I did in fact enjoy. Therefore, I thought I'd write down some notes on what I try to remember to write about whenever I'm trying to flesh out a review. I don't actually write full book…
