The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels by Janice Hallett

The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels by Janice Hallett

Book reviews, Contemporary Fiction, Crime, Mystery, Thriller
If you’ve read any of my previous reviews of Janice Hallett books, you’ll know I’m an enormous fan. I’ve read The Appeal and The Twyford Code and I was a massive fan of the way that Hallett presented the books using different forms of media: emails, text messages, paper clippings etc. The Mystery Case of the Alperton Angels is very much the same sort of thing but this time I think she may have written her most exciting and interesting story yet! The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman book review

Book reviews, Crime, Mystery
The Thursday Murder Club series is a bit of a cult sensation. When the first book came out it broke some record for being one of the fastest-selling debut novels of all time or something and since then every single sequel shoots to the top of the best sellers almost instantly upon release. There’s something about Osman’s casual and lighthearted writing style and the cast of unexpectedly humorous older characters that make these such accessible books for all ages. But how’s the third in the series? Please note that this article contains affiliate links. The Way It Is Now by Garry Disher book review

Book reviews, Crime
The Way It Is Now is a book that I was kindly sent by Viper Books as a proof copy quite a while ago. After showing my partner my TBR bookshelf which I’ve broken down into books sent to me to review and books I’ve bought - she chose this from the ‘books sent to me’ list. I had absolutely no idea of what the premise of the book would be when I picked it up and, after finishing it, I'm still not 100% confident of what the point of it was. Breathless by Amy McCulloch book review

Book reviews, Crime, Mystery, Thriller
I was suggested to read Breathless by my partner's mum. She said that, as we're going to Switzerland later this year it might get be a good read to ready me for the walking and the hills we'll be navigating. Breathless is about a blogger who ascends a mountain in hopes to get the story of the year about an incredible climber but soon realises people are being killed along the way. I sincerely hope this wasn't a hint! Please note that this article contains affiliate links. High Wire by Kam Majd book review

High Wire by Kam Majd book review

Book reviews, Crime, Thriller
I love a good thriller but I often find that they end up falling into a fairly formulaic plot. This isn’t always a bad thing as this can be exactly what I’m looking for when I pick up the book and this clearly works for many. However, High Wire is a thriller that doesn’t fall into a generic plot, it’s one that interweaves multiple lives, resulting in one of the most intense and best thrillers I’ll read all year! The Curfew by T.M. Logan book review

Book reviews, Crime, Mystery, Thriller
I read The Catch by T.M. Logan last year and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I actually listened to the audiobook on my way back from dropping my parents off a few hours away and was shocked by how quickly the car journey seemed to go after that. Therefore when I was perusing through a charity shop and saw another T.M. Logan book The Curfew, I was quick to pick it up. Please note that this article contains affiliate links. Nomad by James Swallow book review

Nomad by James Swallow book review

Book reviews, Crime, Thriller
I'll be honest, I decided to pick up Nomad from my bookshelf because I was watching Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime at the time and fancied picking up an action-thriller with one hero who has to save the day using military means. I'd heard some great things about Nomad and so decided to give it a try. Please note that this article contains affiliate links. Only The Lonely by Tamara Von Werthern book review

Only The Lonely was kindly gifted to me by Tamara Von Werthern herself after she asked me via social media whether her book about an older man who accidentally spent some time being a detective (based on her real-life father) would be something I'd be interested in reading, I said yes and a few months later when my TBR cleared up a bit, I picked it up. The Jigsaw Man by Nadine Matheson book review

Book reviews, Crime, Mystery, Thriller
The Jigsaw Man was another book that when I asked people which book I should read from my physical TBR list received a lot of recommendations. The reviews on the blurb and the front of the book likened it to Val McDermid too which is high praise. However, I must say... I was incredibly underwhelmed.
