Did Atomic Habits by James Clear actually change anything about my life?

Did Atomic Habits by James Clear actually change anything about my life?

Book reviews, Nonfiction
I recently read through (and listened through) the entirety of Atomic Habits by James Clear. It's the first book I've read in the 'productivity'/'self-help' genre and so I thought, rather than my usual review where I try to break the book down into a review of the plot and a review of the characters and then round it off with a summary, I'd try something a bit different. Of Blood and Fire by Ryan Cahill book review

Of Blood and Fire by Ryan Cahill book review

Book reviews, Fantasy
We all know I absolutely love fantasy books - there's something about the imaginative setting, the idea of things being formed and created that aren't real and reading about a story and setting that's so much more grand and interesting than our own. Therefore, when a new fantasy series comes along and starts to get some hype, I always have to try and get my hands on a copy of the first book in the series to see if it's my type of thing. Of Blood and Fire and its subsequent The Bound and the Broken series of books have been receiving said hype and I must say, I can see why. Please note that this article contains affiliate links. Foundation by Isaac Asimov book review

Foundation by Isaac Asimov book review

Book reviews, Sci-Fi
Recently I've been on a huge science fiction kick, something I noted in my ReInception review. Therefore, when I was doing my research into what some of the best science fiction novels are, Asmimov's name kept popping up and his Foundation series kept popping up the most often. In fact, I think somewhere I read it referred to as "the best science fiction series of all time" which is quite some praise. Therefore, I thought "Perfect, this should scratch my itch!" But did it? The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie book review

The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie book review

Book reviews, Fantasy
I've read The Blade Itself before - well I've listened to the audiobook and can't say that at the time I enjoyed it that much. I thought the characters were good but the plot never seemed to get going and it didn't feel like Abercrombie had a lot of plans for the plot itself. The second time around, I appreciated the characters even more and understand what Abercrombie is trying to do with the story. Please note that this article contains affiliate links. ReInception by Serena Straus book review

Book reviews, Sci-Fi
A couple of weeks ago I was on a massive science fiction high, I was watching Silo on TV, reading about some Warhammer stuff coming out (not a big fan but seeing if it's something worth getting into) and so reading ReInception felt the perfect fit for me and I would say it very much scratched my itch! Breathless by Amy McCulloch book review

Breathless by Amy McCulloch book review

Book reviews, Crime, Mystery, Thriller
I was suggested to read Breathless by my partner's mum. She said that, as we're going to Switzerland later this year it might get be a good read to ready me for the walking and the hills we'll be navigating. Breathless is about a blogger who ascends a mountain in hopes to get the story of the year about an incredible climber but soon realises people are being killed along the way. I sincerely hope this wasn't a hint! Please note that this article contains affiliate links. The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake book review

The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake book review

Book reviews, Fantasy
The front cover of The Atlas Six By Olivie Blake suggests it’s going to have a lot going on. There’s going to be a bit of science, a bit of magic and it’s all going to be dark, brooding and cool. Well, this is all true but somehow Blake, unfortunately, doesn’t seem to make it at all appealing to read about. Please note that this article contains affiliate links. Wool by Hugh Howey book review

Book reviews, Sci-Fi
I'm not sure I've received such a positive response to a book as when I posted about Wool on my Twitter the other week. I posted out asking whether it was a book that was worth picking up as the new TV series was coming out soon. Hugh Howey, the author did retweet the post himself and so I imagine the majority of responses came from his fans but even so, it was such an overwhelmingly positive response, I knew I had to pick it up ASAP. And I'm glad I did! High Wire by Kam Majd book review

High Wire by Kam Majd book review

Book reviews, Crime, Thriller
I love a good thriller but I often find that they end up falling into a fairly formulaic plot. This isn’t always a bad thing as this can be exactly what I’m looking for when I pick up the book and this clearly works for many. However, High Wire is a thriller that doesn’t fall into a generic plot, it’s one that interweaves multiple lives, resulting in one of the most intense and best thrillers I’ll read all year! Aiduel’s Sin by Daniel T. Jackson book review

Book reviews, Fantasy
Daniel T. Jackson turned out to have written one of my favourite books of last year. Illborn was a breath of fresh air in the fantasy space - not all about one special individual written in some ye olde language that has become almost what feels like a necessity for epic fantasies. Instead, it was a well but simple-written book with a very gripping storyline that, despite the large page count, I didn't feel was a long book. Aiduel's Sin is the sequel to Illborn, building on everything Please note that this article contains affiliate links.
