My Life in Books Tag

I found this book tag on The Book Loving Nut blog and thought I’d give it a go.

It’s quite a simple one. As you can imagine, as with all of these book tags, there are questions under a certain theme and I have to answer them.

Pick a book for each of your initials

These aren’t necessarily the best books I can think of with my initials but they’re the first books.

L Lord of the Flies by William Golding

A A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

N Normal People by Sally Rooney

H Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell

Count your age along your bookshelf, what is it?

The 28th book on my shelf currently (though I do have a load of books extracted and on a separate shelf as my physical TBR) is… Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn

You can read my review of The Woman in the Window here.

Pick a book set in your city/country

Tombland by C.J. Sansom is set in Norwich (my closest city) so I suppose that’s not a bad one to go with. If you’ve not heard of this series, you can read my review of the first book in the series Dissolution.

Pick a book that represents a place you’d like to travel to

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley. Now, I know there’s a murder. But I’ve always loved the idea of going away with a bunch of friends to a remote, large house.

You can read my review of The Hunting Party here.

Pick a book that’s your favourite colour

This edition of A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin is probably the closest to my favourite colour. it’s sort of a dark bluey grey.

Which book do you have the fondest memories of?

The Harry Potter series. They’re all amazing – I read them when I lived in London, then when I moved to Norfolk and still reread them today. They remind me of a simpler time when you just sat in bed at night and read a book as long as you could until you fell asleep because you didn’t have a phone to distract you or work to get up for the in the morning.

Which book did you have the most difficulty reading?

I think A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini was difficult to read as it was incredibly sad and had some very tense moments.

In terms of a book that I really struggled with? A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas – it was 90% women dribbling over a man with no personality, and 10% story. Its only saving grace was that Maas remembered she needed to write a book about 75% of the way through and so wrote a thrilling ending.

Which book in your TBR pile will give you the biggest accomplishment when you finish it?

I think I have to put the rest of the Wheel of Time series here. I know it’s not one book but when you read 800+ page books quite frequently, no single book seems like a massive accomplishment. Therefore, when I finally complete the Wheel of Time series, I’ll feel like I’ve accomplished something!
